Location:
Extension of the left atrium; part of the left border of the heart’s anterior surface; overlaps the root of the pulmonary artery (pulmonary trunk)

Function:
Pumps oxygenated blood from the lungs into the left ventricle

Importance in cardiovascular diseases:
atrial arrhythmias; dilated in mitral valve disease; site of emboli formation in atrial fibrillation

Localización:
Es una extensión de la aurícula izquierda; forma parte del borde izquierdo de la superficie anterior del corazón; se superpone a la raíz de la arteria pulmonar (tronco pulmonar).

Función:
Bombea sangre oxigenada de los pulmones al ventrículo izquierdo.

Importancia en las enfermedades cardiovasculares:
arritmias auriculares; dilatada en la patologías de la válvula mitral; sitio de formación de émbolos en la fibrilación auricular.
