Apex Inflow Tract Moderator Band Papillary Muscles RVOT Tricuspid Valve

Location:
extends from the right atrium to the apex of the heart; forms the major portion of the anterior surface of the heart

Function:
pumps deoxygenated blood from the body to the lungs

Importance in cardiovascular diseases:
hypertrophy in pulmonary hypertension or pulmonary stenosis; loss of function in ischemic heart disease; origin of ventricular arrhythmias

Importance in device delivery:
traditional location for ventricular lead placement at the apex, right ventricular outflow tract and, more recently, the ventricular septum; ablation site for RVOT ventricular tachycardias
