Location:
The ostium of the posterior interventricular vein is typically near the ostium of the coronary sinus itself. In most human hearts we have observed a valve associated with the ostium as this venous drainage enters the coronary sinus.
Function:
This cardiac vein returns deoxygenated blood (metabolic waste products) from the posterior aspects of both the right and left ventricles: as this vein typically follows along the posterior ventricular septal border.
